A Warm Welcome Back

A Warm Welcome Back
Dear Parents and Guardians,
if you are reading this although you may be feeling slightly battered, you have in fact survived yet another round of lockdown and for that we applaud you! As we edge slightly closer to normality there are still some procedures that will remain in place in order to help try and keep us all safe from the ever mutating COVID virus. Some procedures that have been implemented are in general very good practice and the younger boys have gained a real understanding about the importance of hygiene and the spreading of germs which is a huge thumbs up in our book – every cloud has a silver lining, (no matter how thin that lining may be….).
A reminder of the policies we have in place is included in this newsletter but if you have any additional queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
New at DAC
Games days: Especially for our reception and year one boys who want to play on the Xbox, we are introducing two new games; Team Sonic Racing and Kart Racers Grand Prix both are multi player gamers so the boys can race against each other!
– On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday Leah, from the Danny Bailey team, will join DAC from 5pm to 5:55pm to practice and test football skills on the courts. PLEASE remember to remind the boys that they need to bring their trainers with them if they want to play on the school courts (the sad puppy dog faces when they forget their trainers are becoming less and less persuasive and boys can not be permitted to return to their classrooms to get them).
Monday Maths! After the Easter break there will be a Maths tutor at DAC each Monday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm to provide support where needed and to set worksheets based on each child’s ability.
Homework period
Last term we saw positive results with a more structured homework period. We have been moving towards a near silent study period where boys are expected to complete set tasks within 30 minutes.

We have mock spelling tests, multiplication, division, addition and subtraction drills for all abilities, handwriting worksheets and much more.
If boys wish to read they will need to bring their own reading books as we longer bring out the DAC book selections (believe us when we say it is extremely difficult to disinfect the pages of each book read). In addition we do notice that some boys take the opportunity to read as an opportunity to…. stare into space for the whole duration, therefore we do tend to recommend worksheets or homework are completed so we know the boys have used the time productively.

Boys who disrupt this period will not be permitted to go outside and if it is a gaming day they will not be permitted to play on the consoles as we are extremely clear about the repercussions of not taking this study time seriously.
Reminder of COVID Measures:
Due to the ongoing concern surrounding COVID-19, we have had to adjust the way we offer after school care so in order to meet Ofsted regulations, adhere to government guidelines and of course still offer a fun and safe environment for the boys while they are with us, the following changes still apply:
•  Until the summer term DAC will accept a maximum of 12 boys for each session to maintain appropriate staff to child ratios and for bubbles to remain effective.
•  We use a non contact thermometer to check the temperature of each child upon arrival. The parent or emergency contact of any child who exhibits symptons of COVID 19 will be contacted immediately so that collection can be arranged as the child will not be able to remain in the session. The school will advise us of which rooms we can use for isolation.
•  There are three bubbles; reception to year two and year two to year five and year six to year eight.
•  If we have a confirmed case of the virus, everyone in the bubble would need to self isolate for 14 days.
•  All boys need to sanitise their hands upon entering the hall (this is in addition to hand washing once they have returned from using the toilets).
•  Snack is still provided however not in the buffet format. The boys will need to choose what they wish to eat from the snack menu in advance and this will be set out each session. “Seconds” will no longer be available. Water will be available upon request throughout the session.
•  Purell Advanced Hygenic Hand Rub will be placed at each activity for the boys to use before they start playing. All games and activities will be sanitised after each use.
•  Parents and visitors are not permitted on site so collection will be from the main gate. We would ask that where possible you try and give advance notice of the time you intend to collect your son so that we can ask them to start getting ready to leave (this will save you waiting too long at the gate). Staff will sign out children on parents behalf.
We will not be able to deal with general questions or queries at the gate.
Payments & Refund Policy
The cost of each session is £15, payments must be received in full at the start of each term. Refunds for sessions will only be given under the following circumstances:
a)            If Keble School is closed.
b)            If DAC is closed.
