Dear Parent / Guardian,
Hopefully you have recovered from being made to feel terrified in your own homes as ghouls, ghosts and scary creatures aka “the children” took over the streets for Halloween this week, (it could be argued that some kids are absolutely terrifying… no costume necessary, but that’s a matter of opinion). Halloween 2023 was creepy (as usual) and to add even more creepiness to the session, some of the children made their own pet spiders and string skeletons. Visit the club’s Instagram page to see what else has been happening at DAC@DreamworksAfterschoolClub

Guest Speaker: Molawa Adeyusi

ReCyclan Co-Founder and CEO – 2022 Forbes 30 under 30 – Polo Player

Technology has seen amazing advancements over the last four decades and other industries have led to the rise of entrepreneurs across various sectors.  Protecting our planet is now a top priority for governments across the globe and we are excited to welcome Molawa to DAC who will be talking about his background in Tech, how his company, Recyclan, helps the environment, his journey to being named as one of last years Forbes 30 under 30 and his love of the sport, Polo!

Recyclan collects discarded plastic and makes it reusable. The company has operations in 20 countries across Africa and Europe and the co-founders kick started the company without any outside funding and in 2021 the business had revenue of over £4 million and recycled 7,000 tons of plastic.

Molawa will be joining us on Tuesday 21st November, year five and six students who attend DAC are welcome to join the session (even if Tuesday is not your usual set day), just let Edith know.

Amnesty International: Write to Right Campaign

Amnesty International UK work to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. With support from over ten million people around the globe, Amnesty International is the world’s largest human rights organisation that investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilises the public to help transform societies to create a safer, more just world.

From 27th November to the 1st of December we will be supporting the Write for Rights campaign which sends cards and messages of support to people imprisoned unfairly all over the world. The club will select individuals whose cases are child friendly (in terms of explaining what they have been imprisoned for) and then our attendees in years four, five and six will create pictures and/or messages of encouragement to let them know the world has not forgotten them. Visit Amnesty International for more information about the outstanding amazing work they do. If you have any queries please contact Edith.

For parents who wish to view the full list of people you can write too, we have a Write to Rights booklet available at the club from Monday 6th November. Please ask a team member.

WE ARE RECRUITING!!!

DAC is on the look out for a new club assistant and club manager to join the team. If you know anyone who enjoys working with children and is looking specifically for part time work, please ask them to email their CV and a covering letter to: Edith@DreamworksAfterschoolClub.co.uk

Remember: Your Blood Helps

Edith has been raising awareness about Sickle Cell Disease and the need for regular blood donors since 2016 and supports the work carried out by the amazing NHS Blood and Transplant team who work tirelessly to recruit new regular blood donors.

Every person who donates blood makes an enourmous difference to the lives of people who have had who are being treated for Cancer, Leukaemia, Thallasemia, Sickle cell disease and other life threatening conditions, in addition to saving the lives of those have accidents, require planned or emergency operations and women who suffer complications during childbirth. The list of who benefits from blood donations is endless and you may yourself know people who have needed a blood transfusion. Blood donations save lives and the NHS needs more donors constantly to make sure there is enough blood available for everyone that may need it.

There are blood donor centres and sessions all over London so there is bound to be one conveniently located in close proximity to your home, place of work or your child’s school. If you are healthy enough to donate, please make an appointment at: www.Blood.co.uk

Be Amazing. Give Blood. Save Lives. Your Blood Helps.
