Dear parent / guardian,
Alas, the half term was a mere tease and just like that we are back into our usual routines. None the less, we hope you all had an enjoyable break, please spare a few minutes to read about some new information and a few important reminders…

Chess Club Tuesdays
In this age of technology,  we are pleased and excited to announce that we will be starting a chess club on Tuesdays from 4:45pm until approximately 5:30pm. The club will be run by Jonathan Century who is a professional coach and player from the Southgate Chess Club. He joins us with a wealth of experience and on an academic level holds a BSc Mathematics, MSc Operational Research and an MBA.
As we may have a few beginners we may need to restrict numbers initially or create groups so that the boys get the best level of support and guidance, so if you would like your son to attend the chess club, please email; TheTeam@DreamworksAfterschoolClub.co.uk

Priority Reading
During the homework period, we supervise reading with reception and year one children individually. Year 2 boys and upwards are expected to read independently (their reading book or a book from our selection) or they can attempt to carry out any homework they have been set.
Rewards & Time outs
Some boys have exemplary manners and we think it is important to reward, good behaviour, practices, kindness and support to others so we have started giving out stickers and certificates just so that the boys recognise that good behaviour, helpfulness and other positive attributes are seen, valued and appreciated by the DAC team.
We have a few new and interesting characters that are still finding their feet and getting used to the DAC club rules. Boys who do not follow instructions or club rules will be asked to sit on a time out. We will be using the five minute and ten minute sand timers (we hope not to use the 15 minute or longer sand timers). Boys can be placed on time out for using inappropriate language, being unkind to others or younger boys, not listening to instructions from staff and so on. Refusal to participate in the homework period will mean no access to the gaming equipment, and the boys will not be permitted to play outside…
This approach is starting to work wonders on improving their behaviour and their understanding of what is and what isn’t acceptable behaviour at DAC.
Toilets: One in. One out.
We have had more instances of boys misusing the toilets, paper tissues, soap etc. so apart from when they go to wash their hands for snack (where a team member accompanies them), the boys will only be permitted to go to the toilets one at a time. Reception boys will be accompanied to the toilets by a team member as usual.
Late Collection
Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate the collection of any boys later than 6pm. All boys need to be collected by 6pm at the latest as the cleaning team come into the main hall at that time and we recently had an incident where a boy, slipped on an area that had been mopped and banged his head on the floor which could have caused a very serious injury. The cleaners will enter the main hall to begin cleaning at 6pm so to prevent hazards and dangerous conditions it is essential that your sons are collected by this time as per the clubs terms and conditions. If you are unable to collect your son by 6pm please make alternative arrangements so that he is collected on time.
No cameras or filming!
Please do not take pictures of or record the children at DAC.  Where you may be only focusing on your child, other children may be picked up in the background which we cannot permit and which would be upsetting to other parents who understandably don’t want their children to be photographed or recorded by another parent. If you have given permission for your son to be photographed, the team can occasionally take pictures of your son using the club mobile and send them to you at the end of the term. Please let us know if you would like us to do this.  Please could you refrain from using your mobile phones when collecting your child/children.
Check your child’s belongings!
We are having too many instances of the wrong items/uniform being taken when the boys are being collected from DAC. Please make sure your son’s belongings are clearly labelled and that you check your sons items carefully before you leave. Any times found at the end of the session will be left on the hooks in the corridor outside the main hall. We have started messaging parents when we do find an item so that they know where to look in the morning.  

Sign boys out…
Please remember to sign children out when collecting them. We cannot stress how important this is as we need to know where all children are at all times. If you would like someone else to collect on your behalf, please ensure you have sent the name and picture of the person collecting the child in advance, so we know who to expect.

In the gym…
On occasion we are based in the gym so we are sending Whats App messages on the days we are there to let you know. If you find yourself unable to gain entry via the main gate when you buzz, please call the DAC mobile and we will come and let you in: 07596849761. If you have not been getting these messages, please let us know.

Trainers…again…
Once boys have left their classrooms, they are not permitted to return so they need to remember to bring their trainers over to DAC with their bags. If they have a spare pair of trainers that can be left in their main bag, that might be the way forward especially for those who tend to forget but like to play on the school courts.
