Summer Term 2023 @ DAC

Summer Term 2023 @ DAC

Dear Parents /Guardians,
We hope you enjoyed the Easter break…or at the very least we hope the children did, I am sure most of you are relieved that they will be back to school next week.

Changes @ DAC:
The aftermath of COVID and the current economic climate have adversely impacted the afterschool club and because we know there are families at Keble who still rely on the service due to work and personal commitments, we have worked hard to keep the cost of set day sessions the same as they were pre COVID and this will remain the same this term.

In light of the decline of attendees at afterschool clubs across the country, Ofsted has amended staff to child ratios and afterschool clubs are able to use lone working policies.  This means we will be changing the staff structure and hours of operation this term:
  • The club will now run Monday to Thursday and will close on Fridays. The club will always be open on the last full day of term except if this falls on a Friday.
  • On days when we do not have a lot of children attending, there will be one member of staff in line with our Lone Working Policy. If you would like to see this policy please request this by email: TheTeam@DreamworksAfterschoolClub.co.uk
  • In order for the lone working policy to be successful we will need the cooperation of the children in attendance. We have had a few instances in the past (thankfully not many), where children have not followed instructions given by the staff member on duty which has resulted in them going outside of the area where they can be visible to staff. This type of behaviour will be raised with parents so we can jointly iron it out.
Please direct all queries or updates to The Team so that staff on duty are abreast of all relevant information. If there is an issue that needs to be escalated please email; Edith@DreamworksAfterschoolClub.co.uk
Aissatou will be at DAC each session and Marco will be at DAC each Tuesday.
Refunds
Once set days are booked, non-attendance due to holiday, play date, illness or any other reasons will be charged for. Refunds for sessions will only be given under the following circumstances:
  • If Keble School is closed.
  • If DAC is closed.
Homework
  • Reception children are the priority for support with homework, followed by year ones and year two boys. Year one and year two boys will be encouraged to work independently and ask for help when needed until we have finished helping the reception children.
  • I-pads have been causing issues during the homework period amongst some boys who pretend they are doing homework whenever they think they are being watched by staff. As we cannot police the year 5’s as well as supervise the younger years and as Ms Fleming does not particularly want the boys using their i-pads at DAC because they sometimes are not returned to the comms room, this term we will now have to ask that all boys do not bring their I-pads to DAC and that they bring alternative materials for the homework period.
  • Boys who disrupt this period will not be permitted to go outside and if it is a gaming day they will not be permitted to play on the consoles as we are extremely clear about the repercussions of not taking this study time seriously and disrupting those who want to start or finish their homework or reading.
Reminders:
  • If you would like you child to attend on an ad hoc basis, please email us or send a WhatsApp to the club mobile at least 24 hours beforehand so we know to make a snack for them. If your son is booked in for a session and they will not be attending, please let us know as early as possible so we know not to make any food for them.
  • Please remember to sign out your child at collection.
  • We can not release any child to another child – you will need to arrange for an adult to collect your child/children in your absence. Please send a picture of the person due to collect to the DAC phone or to the team email address before the session begins.
  • If you buzz the main gate and do not get a response, please call the club mobile: 07596849761
  • Trainers are required to play on the schools courts!
  • Tuesdays Marco from First Goal is with us again this term from 5pm to 5:45pm teaching football skills – all years welcome.
  • We do not bring out the gaming consoles on a Tuesday (traditional play – hooray! we have won that battle although we have lost the war for the other sessions it seems!). Game consoles are now brought out upon request on the other days.
  • Our first session is on Tuesday 25th April. Our last session of the Summer term is Tuesday 11th July.
Finally
Thank you to everyone who gave comments, suggestions and feedback last term – if ever you would like to share something with us or make a suggestion, please feel free to send an email.
If you have made it this far, thank you for reading! We would also like to send a special thank you to our set day customers for their continued custom and look forward to continuing to provide a reliable service for all our families. If you have not done so already, please could you let us know which days your son/s will be attending this term and if you have any queries please get in touch.

Have a great term!

Edith and the DAC team.
